A RIVER MOVING IN YOU

“When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy” ~the poet Rumi

I think Rumi is talking about any and everything you do, not just something you’re passionate about. Do everything from your soul. This makes the most mundane moment come alive so that it’s fresh and new and miraculous.

That’s living. ~Cricket

99 CENTS

My publisher is offering the e-book version of my new novel for 99 cents for a limited time! It’s a spiritual book (Eckhart Tolle-ish), but also a creepy alternate world story. Here’s a review from a Goodreads reader:

I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway, so thank you very much. The Ghosting of Gods by Cricket Baker tells a story about a brother who would do anything and everything to get his sister back. Jessie is an exorcist who has a lot of questions. The answers to these questions can only be found out through death. It seems that Jessie feels the need to touch death and the exorcisms help him do that.
Jessie, his friends Poe and Ava and Ava’s daughter Leesel are transported to Memento Mori (A world of death) While there, they meet some interesting people like Elspeth (a witch-coven scientist). Jesse feels that he may be able to acquire the information he is seeking from Elspeth, however he doesn’t know if he can and should trust her.
The book is a superbly constructed story which immerses you into a dystopian like world. It is not a straightforward story but has many twists and turns to keep you intrigued. The Ghosting of Gods is paced well, there are no dull moments.

FEAR, PROBLEMS, DRAMA

“One should view their spiritual work as learning to live life without stress, problems, fear, or melodrama.” ~Michael A. Singer, The Untethered Soul.

I’m just finishing up reading Mr. Singer’s book again, for the second time in just a few months! The clarity of his spiritual teaching is absolutely awesome, and like nothing I’ve ever read. This quote is a good one for me when I head to work in my job as a counselor for teens. Of course, as a storyteller of supernatural fiction, I pay no attention at all to minimizing fear, problems, or drama!! Ha-ha.

JOHN LENNON SPIRITUALITY

I agree with this in that I think all religions have Truth in them…if you’re open and willing to see how we’re really all the same.

“I believe in God, but not as one thing, not as an old man in the sky. I believe that what people call God is something in all of us. I believe that what Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha and all the rest said was right. It’s just that the translations have gone wrong.”
― John Lennon

RELIGIOUS INTRIGUE!!!

Six pages written today on my new novel is a good, solid day of writing. I’m earning the privilege of reading my copy of the new Dan Brown novel. Love, love, love religious intrigue in stories! My favorite thing, along with ghosts, of course. If I’m writing, you can bet it’s religious-y or mystical, and absolutely supernatural.~Cricket

PLAY, ARTISTRY, WORK

Writing isn’t work.

I’m writing a new novel, and it’s like playing. In the same way it’s so much fun to visit Hogwarts, for example, it’s fun for me to write a world I want to be in. Writing is playing.

But writing isn’t just playing. It’s also artistry, but that’s not work either. Artistry is when I have a story that’s been a lot of fun for me, and now I want to shape it into something that readers can enjoy, too. That’s exciting, really cool. Rewriting is artistry.

And then there’s marketing the finished book. Sigh. Oh my God.

That’s work.
